ZHGAS's First Overseas Project Enters Critical Construction Phase

The Xiamen Xiangsheng Circulating Fluidized Bed Oxygen-Enriched Coal Gasification Project is the first overseas project commenced by ZHGAS in active response to the national "Belt and Road" Initiative. Currently, the main construction of the project has been largely completed, with relevant large-scale equipment and instrumentation materials already on site. Installation work is proceeding intensively, and the commissioning of two gasifiers is expected to be completed by the end of March 2020.

The Xiamen Xiangsheng Circulating Fluidized Bed Oxygen-Enriched Coal Gasification Project is located in Konawe Regency, Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is planned to construct a gasification plant for a local integrated stainless steel smelter with an annual output of 2.5 million tons. Upon completion, it will supply fuel to thirty-two nickel-iron production line rotary kilns across four workshops of the smelter. R&D personnel, taking into account the characteristics of coal resources in Indonesia, designed the use of an atmospheric circulating fluidized bed oxygen-enriched gasifier system for coal gas production. Based on the calculated production demand, the gasification plant is designed to include 8 sets of circulating fluidized bed gasifiers, each with a single capacity of 80,000 m3/h (ZHGAS80000). The eight gasifiers will serve as mutual backups to ensure the gas supply requirements for the thirty-two rotary kilns across the four workshops.


The atmospheric circulating fluidized bed oxygen-enriched gasifier system is a process solution gradually developed and promoted over more than ten years, based on the core technology of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences – Circulating Fluidized Bed Gasification (CGAS) technology. It boasts characteristics such as high heat and mass transfer efficiency, uniform bed temperature, strong adaptability to various coal types, high production capacity per unit volume, and ease of large-scale application. Its advantages include low raw material and operating costs, flexible gasifying agent adjustment, adjustable load, convenient start-up and shutdown, stable and reliable operation, high system energy efficiency, and excellent environmental performance. This process is well-suited to the actual needs of the Indonesian project, aligns with the local coal quality characteristics, and can significantly reduce gasification costs.


As one of the Company's key projects, the Indonesian project is a crucial undertaking marking the Company's debut in the international market and its venture into multinational operations. The Company dispatched an elite team, strengthened process control, and ensured that personnel and equipment met project requirements. They systematically carried out various tasks, back-scheduled the construction period, grasped key milestones, and advanced progress targets as scheduled. During the project construction, they ensured compliance with owner's suggestions, respect for supervision, adherence to local customs and traditions, and effective implementation of engineering management regulations. After the project's implementation, coal gasification efficiency is expected to reach over 75%, with overall thermal efficiency exceeding 84%.


The rapid advancement of the Indonesian project is a significant move for the Company to actively expand into overseas markets and explore international operation strategies.
